A hell ride through Motown’s darkest alleys, a no wave birthday party with electronic beats, and a series of songs that creep inside your spirit and like ghostly infestation, never leave.” - Johnny Fantastic

Parables

by Luna Honey

Available on CD (D.S.I. 32) and  cassette (Strange Mono LH).

Luna Honey's fourth full length offering continues their distinctive style down a more dark and psychedelic path while still maintaining their tight, pop-sensible compositions and restrained musicianship.

Imbued with the madness that comes from enduring the descent, the record takes the band’s no wave and gothic influences and veers left into uncharted territory, transcending simple rage-rock to assert moral propositions on empathy towards others, power, greed, oppression, obsession and possession.

Principal songwriter Maura Pond’s astounding vocal performances are some of their finest to date. Songs like “Birth” and “Smirk,” with their hypnotic rhythms, serve up an irresistible sense of anticipation perfectly resolved with an explosion of melody and emotion. The instrumentation on “Signal” evokes the punk aesthetics of The Birthday Party, while Pond’s brooding vocals and deft lyricism juxtapose Grace Slick and spiritual mantras. “Solitude” brings us back to Luna Honey’s roots, Pond's oozing delivery of “come out, come out, wherever you are” creates an uneasy and addictive tension.

Bio

Luna Honey is an experimental dark rock trio that aims to reject the trappings of nostalgia and cliche while still remaining rooted in the collaborative and accessible format of a band. Since forming in 2018, the band has released four full length albums: Peace Will Grind You Down (2018), Branches (2020), Ballast (2021), and the upcoming Parables (2022).

The group consists of the core of Maura Pond, Benjamin Schurr, and Levi Flack. Recording and mixing entirely in their homes, the trio has total freedom in the studio, often trading instruments and experimenting with unconventional instruments such as pitch shifted harmonica, marxophone, prepared piano, kazoo, and unloved vintage drum machines.
